WineAccess.com

Great wine is all about one man's (or woman's) expression of her land in a given growing season. We don't simply taste a wine and sell. We research our selections, helping you understand why each wine is special. It's often in the 'why' that one makes sense of what one tastes. WineAccess is a story of places, of special hillsides, of people. It's a story of discovery. At its core, it's the story of great wine.

Pale green in color with wonderful ripe green apple aromas, laced with a dose of new wood, but it's the lusciously concentrated, wet stone core of fruit that really sets this site apart -- particularly in this new vintage of the decade.

The Miracle of 2008

The 2008 growing season took its own sweet time getting going. Bud break was a month late, and the slow development in the vines had growers worried on two fronts. First there was very little crop. Second, if it didn't warm up, would the grapes ever ripen? Then the Indian Summer miracle came into play. The weather stayed relatively cool, but the rain never came, and the growing season went on and on, the grapes slowly, incrementally filling out. The results, often from grapes harvested towards the end of October (!) were a group of majestically structured Pinot Noirs with terrific aromatic complexity and length.

The market may not be kind to these wines. Prices are generally high and understandably so; when you're harvesting 1.5 tons per acre, often paying $10,000 an acre for grapes, the cost of making top 2008s is staggering. There's little question that the top wines will be 'worth' the price tag. The question is, will the consumers see it that way.
